Dear GKGA Players,
With our recent warm winter, most of us have had a few rounds under our belt and we are ready to go this spring. Our 2017 tournament schedule is up on our website at gkga.net and we have several changes that should make our season even better. The biggest change is that we have moved the Match Play Tournament to the end of our season and the name has been changed to the Steve Tyler GKGA Match Play Playoffs. This will be our version of the PGA’s Fed Ex Cup, except in a match play format. The top twelve players in the Open division and top twelve players in the Senior Division based on Player of the Year Points, will qualify to play in this season ending tournament. Player of the Year Points will be 50 percent greater in this tournament and the top six players in each division based on Player of the Year Points for the entire season will be awarded pro shop gift certificates.
To boost the season ending prize money, $5.00 from every GKGA tournament entry to all of our tournaments in 2017 will go towards the prize money at the end of the season. For example, if we have 80 players in the Spring Medal at The Moors this year, $400.00 of the entry fees will go towards the season ending prize money. So if you have a tournament goal in 2017, it would be to qualify for the Steve Tyler GKGA Match Play Playoffs. The more events you play in, the greater the chance to accumulate Player of the Year Points.
To help you accomplish this goal, we have created a new one day tournament called the GKGA Points Race on August 12th at Heritage Glen. This will be a tournament played strictly for Player of the Year Points. The top ten places in each division will receive POY points from ten points for first place to one point for tenth place. There will also be a skins game and par three closest to the pin contests in the GKGA Points Race.
The Dan Parker Team Challenge is a name and format change for 2017. As before, it will be a two man team event, but the format will consist of four different nine hole formats. The formats will be best ball/scramble/Pinehurst/alternate shot and will be played at Pine View Spruce and Hemlock on July 8th and 9th.
We are pleased to say that all of our sponsors in 2016 have agreed to sponsor in 2017. They are
Pro Services, Golf Performance Academy, Montmorency Group of Oppenheimer, Bridgestone Golf and Oakwood Animal Hospital. New sponsors for 2017 are Lawn Doctor, Senior Marketing Group, Martin Environmental, ASA Truck Accessories and Heritage Glen. We are in the process of adding our new sponsors to our GKGA website. The support of our sponsors enables us to enhance our tournaments with par three closest to the pin contests and gift certificate prizes. We are very thankful for their support and interest in the GKGA.
Our season opener, The Shawn Boyd Spring Shootout, is just around the corner. Grab yourself a partner and join us at Stonehenge South and North on May 6th and 7th.
